Preparing for Alaska
May 01, 2023 by Melody C. Thomas
Our caravan to Alaska starts in just a month and a half. We are starting to get busy with confirming arrangments, ordering supplies, and communicating with participants. We are so excited to be going back to Alaska again. We have been there twice - once on a cruise and the second on an RV caravan for 82 days. It was so phenomenal that we are going back as wagon masters on this caravan
Spring has arrived
Apr 16, 2023 by Melody C. Thomas
Spring has arrived here in the desert! The countryside of rocks and sand is alive with new life. There are flower blooms spread out across the landscape. When you think of the desert, you never think of all the flowers and blooms that occur. It is truly a beautiful place. We are so blessed to be able to travel as we do and to see all these marvelous sights.
Spring is Upon Us
Apr 01, 2023 by Melody C. Thomas
It is springtime. The flowers are blooming and the weather is getting warmer. It has been an unusually cold winter across the country. Certainly looking forward to more moderate weather. We are continuing our travels in the southwest; currently camped in El Centro Naval Air Facility. Soon, it will be time to head north to lead a caravan into the wilds of Alaska. It will be an exciting trip.
Book Sales are Doing Well
Mar 16, 2023 by Melody C. Thomas
It is heartening to read the letters from folks who have bought my book. The letters are a reflection in time and tell a story about what it was like for an individual augmentee Army Reservist to serve in a combat zone as opposed to soldiers who mobilized with their units as a whole. Gathering the letters for this book brought back incredible memories. Now all I need is a ghost writer to help me publish my diary from that time period. It would make quite an interesting story and reveal a lot of what was going on "behind the scenes."
My New Book is Out!
Mar 01, 2023 by Melody C. Thomas
So excited! My next book, Letters From the Desert: A Woman's Experience in Operation Iraqi Freedom, has been released for sale on Amazon.com. The book is a collection of the letters I wrote home during my year-long deployment in the Middle East. Now all I need is a ghost writer to help me write the full story of my experience using my diary. I kept a detailed daily record of my experience in Kuwait/Iraq/Afghanistan. It would make a great story.
My Next Book is Done!
Feb 10, 2023 by Melody C. Thomas
I have completed book number 2. Very different from my first book. This book - LETTERS FROM THE DESERT: A Woman's Experience in Operation Iraqi Freedom - is a compilation of the letters I wrote home during my year-long deployment to the Middle East. Editing and design are just about done and the book will go on sale March 1st. It is a satisfying feeling to accomplish this goal.
We Have a New Truck!
Jan 16, 2023 by Melody C. Thomas
We left Las Vegas, Nevada on January 6th and hurried down to Comanche, Texas. We came to buy a new truck. Apparently, we have very unique requirements and had to search high and low before finding this one. We were lucky to find it.
A New Year is Upon Us
Jan 05, 2023 by Melody C. Thomas
Well, 2023 has arrived. Things are starting to lighten up and few places require the wearing of face masks. It is wonderful to be able to interact with others without the muffled words and hidden faces. Politics are in the news, as usual, and a circus show is taking place in Congress as they can't agree on a Speaker of the House. I sure wish those politicians would concentrate on serving the American people and leaving the antics behind.
On the homefront, I have started work on my next book, Letters From the Desert: An Older Woman's Experience in Operation Iraqi Freedom. It will probably come out around July 1.
Christmas Approaches
Dec 14, 2022 by Melody C. Thomas
Everywhere around us, folks have decorated their campers and surrounding area. Lights twinkle and trees glitter with garland. The campground sponsored a potluck where everyone brought delicious foods. We have just about finished our shopping and sent off packages to children and grandchildren. The cost of postage was eye-popping! Prices sure have gone up. It is an exciting time of year for me and I am eagerly looking forward to the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and sharing the Christmas meal with family and friends. It is a busy time of year with several parties and lots of foods.
